Christ Dominion Academy’s Advanced World Literature course equips students to think critically about literature from and concerning the ancient, medieval, and modern worlds in light of a Biblical worldview. Students will examine the five points of covenant and how covenantal structure is reflected in both secular and Christian works of literature. Students will practice expression through writing in both weekly discussion boards and in formal writing exercises, such as the classical progymnasmata, examining issues in our culture such as sociology, economics, and anthropology, all in the light of the Law of God revealed in Scripture. The minimum age for students in this andvanced worldview and literature class is fifteen.
A worldview and literature class designed for senior high students, this class involves reading assignments in addition to in-class reading and discusssion. Parents and students should be in communication about mature moral and cultural issues before and during this class. If certain sins and behaviors are discussed in Scripture, students should be ready to read about them in class. Students will be expected to reflect on reading selections in group discussions and writing assignments.

Students will be given personal accounts to access their materials on the online platform moodle.com. An email will be sent by the teacher after enrollment with instructions on how to access this account and create a username and password to use for the duration of the course.
Discussions: First discussion post is due at 11:59 pm EST on Tuesday night of each week. Main discussion post should be at least 150 words and utilize proper grammar and punctuation. Any quotes in the discussion posts should be referenced using a page number in parentheses. Two replies to other students’ posts are due by 11:59 pm EST on Sunday night of each week. Replies to other students’ posts should engage the content of the post and go beyond an expression of agreement or disagreement.

Quizzes: There will be at least one weekly quiz concerning the reading material for the week. These quizzes may be multiple choice or comprehension questions designed to assess the students’ comprehension and retention of the reading material.

Writing Assignments and Essays: Each writing assignment and essay is different as students are learning the classical writing style of the eleven different classical progymnasmata. The progymnasmata are classical composition exercises with rigid guidelines that aid students in learning to write concisely and effectively. The course instructor will always provide a detailed grading rubric for every written assignment.

Reading Assignments: Modern World Literature is a reading-heavy course. Students should expect reading assignments from 20-50 pages per night. We will read portions of the assignments aloud in class in order to discuss.
Conduct: Students are expected to exhibit Christ-like behavior in their discussions and interactions. While disagreements are permitted, disparaging comments or ad hominem attacks are not.

Attendance: Students are required to view and participate in a live feed of class. Class sessions will take place from 10:45-11:30 EST, Monday-Friday. If a student misses a class session, it is the student’s responsibility to identify and complete assigned work by either contacting a classmate or the instructor. Refer to the school calendar for days off due to holidays or other circumstances.

Plagarism: Plagiarism is an act of theft and lying. You must provide the source for any information posted in your assignments that is not a result of your own work or thinking, even if you paraphrase or summarize another author’s wording. When three or more words are used from a source, quotation marks must also be supplied. Late Assignments: It is the responsibility of each CDA student to contact the course instructor in the event that an assignment will be turned in late. Never assume that additional time will be granted based on your circumstances. If you fail to contact your instructor, you may receive 0% for the assignment.
